Last Minute Excitement!

I'm pretty excited 'cause Uncle Jon and Auntie Sue say that my Mom and Dad are coming home in a few days. I'm not sure what that means but I have so much to do to get ready. I asked Uncle Jon to give me a bath so I got to play in the water in a white tub for almost an hour.
Debbie dropped in the other day to see all the colours they painted the new rooms...well really after knocking out most of the walls there aren't a lot of walls but that makes it easier for us all. Mom and Dad will love it. Some of the furniture seemed excessive when there were no walls for it so following Uncle Jon's lead I got it all out on the front lawn and let it go for a song. Auntie Sue said I may have misinterpreted what Uncle Jon said about her singing and I might have got a bit more for all those beautiful red and white clothes, and the living room chairs but I think what really counts is the return of Tiger and Casey. And that was directly after the lady asked about the dining room set and I said it's free in my excitement and who can blame me knowing that Mom and Dad would be ecstatic just to see Tiger and Casey again so...no harm done. And on top of that the neighbours all said that the cedar trees in front of our house hid the beauty of the place so when Uncle Jon came over with his electric saw we all yelled timber and cheered as each tree fell. It was somewhat unfortunate about the tree that went through the front porch considering Dad just finished changing the door and putting in that new door to hide all our mess but I figure just coming home is enough and they won't mind the new mess. At least that will give them an excuse when someone drops in on us.

Auntie Sue was concerned that I might have gained weight while Mom and Dad were away but Uncle Jon has taken me on really long walks to counteract the steak and potato dinners and last night we really got a work-out. I almost outran Uncle Jon when two gigantic dogs attacked us and we both had to head for the hills. I wanted to stay and protect Uncle Jon (man's best friend, and all) but Uncle Jon took off so fast that my leash snapped and I flew after him in the wind. Auntie Barb and Uncle Ollie saw us and suggested I might like to join them in their big car but there really wasn't time to chat so we kept flying right by them along the street. I don't understand why but Uncle Jon keeps telling me that Auntie Barb was just joking about safe havens and keeps saying he never even noticed them stopped in front of our house. Exercise is good for us all...that's what he continues to say.

I was already pretty exhausted but Auntie Sue had signed me up to tag for CIB (Criminals in Bala). She said it was the least I could do considering my Dad had coped out on his responsibilities as Vice President of the organization. So I went with Aunt Sue to the LCBO - I think that means Local Criminals Belong Outside - and we harassed everybody going in and out of that place and made them give us money. That strange man, Leo, came by and forced my Aunt to give it to him. She resisted saying we wanted to know how much we had in our little box but he arm wrestled her to the ground (the patrons were cheering) and she finally acquiesced. Shortly after that Marilyn came along and said she wanted our box. I was ready to fight her but Auntie Sue gave in without a whimper so we headed down to the church to visit the wiener convener and he gave us big fat hot dogs with onions and mustard and I got it all over my face but I didn't care 'cause it tasted so good. It wasn't till we were well fed that they noticed that we hadn't paid so Auntie Sue made up a story about Uncle Jon paying and we made our get-away. Most of those people were so busy stuffing their faces with hot dogs and pop that they didn't even notice.

What a day! I'm totally exhausted and Uncle Jon is collapsed in front of that neat game where they race back and forth on ice -can you imagine, Dad! - and try to hit that little black thing with a stick. Talk about exciting. Auntie Sue has disappeared. I think she sneaked down the road to hear the music but Uncle Jon and I have more important things to do...like plan our hike through the Pyrenees!

Around the Town

Wow, have I had an exciting time these last few days. My Uncle Jon and Aunt Sue have been taking me to all sorts of places around Bala. Riding in the back of the truck is still a bit scary, especially when my uncle drives so fast on the highway! My mom and dad forgot to leave me a jacket - thank goodness my aunt thought to bring my blanket along to protect me from the cold wind back there.

Yesterday we went to the Garbage Dump and I got to play inside a great big container. While we were there I visited the Re-Use Centre to pick up some new dishes for my mom and dad. After all that mess the contractors made in our kitchen I just told them to throw everything out. I'm sure my mom and dad will like the new things I found.

On the way home we stopped in to get some papers from a room with little locked doors. I tried to get inside one but my aunt Sue didn't think it would be a good idea. She said something about the wickens behind the walls.

Today we went to a big building that has great fresh baked food smells. Uncle Jon bought something but wouldn't share it with me. He still thinks that there is a difference between people food and dog food. I'm sure that I'll be able to get some later if I look really sad.

After that we went to a nice shop with coverings for ladies. I can't see why everyone puts covers on their bodies - they should just let their hair grow like mine. While we were there, aunt Sue helped me pick up a lovely outfit to give to my mom for Mothers Day. I sure hope she gets here by tomorrow because I really miss her.

Busy Days

The last few days have been a whirlwind of activity. I've hardly had time to think let alone write a blog. We had company the other night and Uncle Jon insisted I get cleaned up so I'd be sparkling white - I'll admit I was getting a little dingy coloured. I tried to let him know my Mom and Dad wash me gently in a sink but you likely know Uncle Jon. Once he gets going on a track it's hard to get him to change. It was a pretty scary being in a rain storm in that tall box thing. The funny thing was Uncle Jon didn't mind it all. He had bubbles going everywhere and he even started to sing. (That part was very scary.) After almost drowning in there Aunt Sue rescued us both and for a moment I felt safe. But it wasn't long before Uncle Jon came up with this really bright idea to dry my fur. He put me in the back of their truck and drove as fast as he could through town. I wanted to wave to all the people who were pointing and staring but I had to hold on as best I could to a bungee cord that was looped through a hook in the back of the truck. It was all I could do to hang on. I'm not sure what my mom will think of my missing teeth. I guess it was worth it though as our company made a big fuss of me. They still wouldn't feed me at the table. I really think that Uncle Jon and Aunt Sue need to lighten up on that one.

The next day Auntie sue and Uncle Jon took me with them to this neat old building with lots of places to sit. But first we went into a room at the back and once again, they got to eat and drink and forgot to give me anything. After a while this lady in a long white robe came sweeping in and made us all go and sit down. She sure is bossy. Then all kinds of people started jumping up and down. I don't know what they were doing but one guy got up and said he's a "wiener convener" so I started hoping I would still get a snack. But no such luck...he just sat down. It wasn't long after that I noticed a really, big dog sleeping on the other side of the place. He looked bored so as soon as all the people were watching the lady in white, I made my way over for a visit. I guess I shouldn't have nipped his tail to get his attention. But the fuss that all those people made wasn't really necessary. As I ran under all those feet with that big dog close behind me we might have knocked over a few older ladies but I'm not sure they didn't want to sit down anyway. And it sure livened up the whole place. Uncle Jon seemed to want to play too and he started running after us. I don't know if we're going back there soon but it sure was fun.

Big Plans - May 5

I still can't believe that my mom and dad left me just so they could go to see a human baby. Even if he is our relative ! Thank goodness for my Auntie Sue and Uncle Jon. They take me outside every 15 minutes for a short walk - I guess they don't want any puddles on their floors. They always let me watch television - especially the sports programs. Uncle Jon puts on a terrific fast moving game with lots of excitement, unlike my dad who watches that slow paced back and forth, back and forth, back and forth game where they don't even try to put it in the net ! I have also been introduced to a neat program where they surprise people by completely renovating their homes while they are away. You should see the looks on the faces of people when they return to find a totally different inside to their house.
I enjoyed that TV program so much that I contacted some lady named Debbie who works for the show. When she found out how long my mom and dad were going to be away, she said that she had some ideas. We started a few days ago and Debbie assured me that the mess we created when we tore out walls and cabinets could be fixed in about a week. That is if we don't run into any other problems like the water line that was cut when some guy in overalls sawed through the floor. Thank goodness we have a deep basement for all that water. The large screen TV I ordered didn't fit the space very well so we adjusted the entertainment unit a bit. Since we were already working on that room, I thought a new coat of paint would be a nice touch. Pink ! It's really too bad about our cats Casey and Tigger. Yesterday the workers left the doors open when they were bringing in the lumber and we haven't seen the cats since.
Do you think my mom and dad will be surprised when they get home ?
I do !

Left On My Own April 26th

As my Mom and Dad packed my little overnight bag I became somewhat suspicious of their furtive glances and attempts to act as if nothing was out of the ordinary. It turned out I was more than right. Not only were they packing me up but in fact they were heading off to England for a month. That they could go without me is unconscionable, but parents now a days are a different breed. The only good news was that when I arrived at my surrogate parents' home it was none other than Uncle Jon and Aunt Sue's. As it happened Aunt Sue was not home to welcome me so after all those mushy "Good byes" (You can't fool me)Uncle Jon put me into his truck -I love riding in trucks- and off we went on an adventure to Bracebridge. I did hear my father, that would be Peter, and Uncle Jon discussing the possibility of my riding shotgun in the open back but I guess they decided I would blow right out and I ended up inside the cab. After all, at eight and a half pounds, and a lady to boot, I think it was only appropriate that I should ride up front with Uncle Jon.

What did we do in Bracebridge? Well, first we dropped into the Trophy store to pick up a special plaque that would be presented to the Volunteer Firefighters next Sunday, then we bought a couple of bottles at some place that only had initials on the front. On our way home Uncle Jon stopped at some place with enormous grass fields and I was able to have a pee in a huge sand pit. Later we stopped to get a pile of papers from a little box in the wall.

When we finally arrived back home Aunt Sue was there to greet me and I thought after all it might not be such a bad holiday with the two of them. That was until bedtime. Somehow they have not come to the understanding that I am suppose to sleep in their bed with them. I know my parents have casually mentioned this but Aunt Sue and Uncle Jon just don't seem to get it. At 5:00 am I finally went to the side of the bed and just let Aunt Sue know that I was there. She was slightly confused -a time of day she is not familiar with -but eventually she got up and took me out for a lovely walk. When we got back home she put me in my bed at the foot of their bed. I knew she was confused so I quickly returned to the side of the bed and did my only slightly intrusive little bark to get her attention. She was more confused than ever and eventually picked me up and put me between the two of them on the bed. This was just about perfect, or so I thought; however, it didn't take her more than one minute to decide this wasn't in the cards for the next month and she promptly lifted me up and returned me to my own bed. What a drag but at this point I gave up on the training schedule and went back to sleep in my own, lonely, little bed.
