Left On My Own April 26th

As my Mom and Dad packed my little overnight bag I became somewhat suspicious of their furtive glances and attempts to act as if nothing was out of the ordinary. It turned out I was more than right. Not only were they packing me up but in fact they were heading off to England for a month. That they could go without me is unconscionable, but parents now a days are a different breed. The only good news was that when I arrived at my surrogate parents' home it was none other than Uncle Jon and Aunt Sue's. As it happened Aunt Sue was not home to welcome me so after all those mushy "Good byes" (You can't fool me)Uncle Jon put me into his truck -I love riding in trucks- and off we went on an adventure to Bracebridge. I did hear my father, that would be Peter, and Uncle Jon discussing the possibility of my riding shotgun in the open back but I guess they decided I would blow right out and I ended up inside the cab. After all, at eight and a half pounds, and a lady to boot, I think it was only appropriate that I should ride up front with Uncle Jon.

What did we do in Bracebridge? Well, first we dropped into the Trophy store to pick up a special plaque that would be presented to the Volunteer Firefighters next Sunday, then we bought a couple of bottles at some place that only had initials on the front. On our way home Uncle Jon stopped at some place with enormous grass fields and I was able to have a pee in a huge sand pit. Later we stopped to get a pile of papers from a little box in the wall.

When we finally arrived back home Aunt Sue was there to greet me and I thought after all it might not be such a bad holiday with the two of them. That was until bedtime. Somehow they have not come to the understanding that I am suppose to sleep in their bed with them. I know my parents have casually mentioned this but Aunt Sue and Uncle Jon just don't seem to get it. At 5:00 am I finally went to the side of the bed and just let Aunt Sue know that I was there. She was slightly confused -a time of day she is not familiar with -but eventually she got up and took me out for a lovely walk. When we got back home she put me in my bed at the foot of their bed. I knew she was confused so I quickly returned to the side of the bed and did my only slightly intrusive little bark to get her attention. She was more confused than ever and eventually picked me up and put me between the two of them on the bed. This was just about perfect, or so I thought; however, it didn't take her more than one minute to decide this wasn't in the cards for the next month and she promptly lifted me up and returned me to my own bed. What a drag but at this point I gave up on the training schedule and went back to sleep in my own, lonely, little bed.
